Where Different Paint Sheens are Used
There are some things you need to know about paint if you are considering buying paint. There are different varieties of paint sheens. Flat, satin, eggshell, gloss, and semi-gloss are the different varieties of paint sheens. Even though a higher paint sheen is durable, it does not mean it is suitable to use it on all areas. When choosing a paint sheen to use you should consider the space you want to paint. Flat sheen is the best variety of sheen to use if you want to paint the ceilings. The eggshell variety of paint sheen is the best for walls. The sheen suitable for doors and trim is the semi-gloss sheen. Different varieties of sheens should be used when painting different areas inside your house. The paint sheen that is suited for the body of the house is the satin sheen. Also, the exteriors areas of the doors and trim are best suited by the satin sheen.
When choosing the variety of paint sheen to use for different areas you should be careful. You will end up using the wrong variety of paint sheen on the wrong areas if you fail to take precautionary measures. The most suitable sheen for ceilings is flat or matte paint. However, it is not a wonder to find some painters recommending that you use flat paint on low traffic areas. I would not use flat paint on any other area of the house apart from the ceiling if I were you.
The paint that is mostly recommended to be used on the interior parts of the wall is eggshell. Interior walls are best suited by eggshell paint because its gloss is not too high. You can also use eggshell on the walls of your kitchen and bathroom because it is versatile. If you want to use a variety of sheen that is slightly brighter than eggshell, then you should choose satin. If you want your colors to appear shiny you should use satin because it is more glossy than eggshell. The other advantages that satin has over eggshell sheen is that it is a little more durable and it is also washable.
Semi-gloss is the best paint sheen to use if you want to paint a baseboard, window casements or doors and trim. Semi-gloss sheen is more durable and washable than the other sheens mentioned earlier making it superior than them. The durability and washable properties of semi-gloss paint can be attributed to its high enamel properties. Semi-gloss paint is the best-suited variety of sheen for kitchens and bathrooms because it is durable and washable. Doors and trims are best suited by the high gloss sheen however the sheen does not go well with woodwork and drywall. However, you can consult a qualified painter if you are having troubles choosing which variety of sheen to use.
